  • Program overview

    The Operations graduate program is a one year rotational program that gives you the opportunity to undertake three, four-month rotations within different areas of the Operations business. The Operations Group performs the work that goes into delivering Westpac's lending, international and transactional processes.

    During the program you'll be introduced to a broad range of roles and challenges across the group's six business areas:

    • Business Lending Operations (BLO) - works with Business Financial Services (BFS) to deliver on promises to customers by efficiently processing business and property finance transactions
    • Consumer Mortgage Operations (CMO) - delivers end-to-end consumer mortgage processing services from application through to settlement
    • Unsecured Lending Originations (ULO) - responsible for the application processing of credit cards and personal loans
    • Collections - responsible for minimising financial losses by partnering with customers to resolve financial difficulties
    • International Operations (IO) - supports financial markets, corporate finance and treasury in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, London, and New York; and international trade and payments globally
    • Transactions and Unsecured Lending Operations (TULO) - services Westpac customers' transaction and credit card accounts
    • Shared Services - a 'Centre of Excellence' to support Operations in a more streamlined and improved manner, ensuring a greater consistency of service right across the Operations business.

    Our business is diverse, so naturally the type of work you'll be involved in will also be varied.

    As an Operations Graduate you will be exposed to many exciting opportunities and projects that will enable you to contribute to improving our processes and finding better solutions for our customers.

  • Rotation

    A rotation is the time you'll spend in any one department or area during the graduate program. As an Operations graduate, you'll complete three rotations of four months duration within different areas of the Operations business.

    We have a number of program streams which may require you to complete more specialised training such as Six Sigma training and the Westpac Project Management approach. No matter which stream you work in, your graduate program will lead to a permanent role that will continue to develop your customer service, project management and leadership skills.

  • Career path

    There are a range of great career options open to you at the end of the Operations Program including the opportunity to work as a Business Analyst or in a Project role. Opportunities also exist to work in a specialist support role (Risk, Coaching, Management Information Systems, or Workforce Management).

  • Support and training

    During your graduate program we'll work with you to bring out your best and encourage you to grow and develop. Your Graduate Manager will provide you with support and direction during your program and will be responsible for working with you to set up your rotations. Your Graduate Manager will also facilitate a number of graduate events throughout the year and will help you find an appropriate role at the end of your program.

    You'll also have the support of your Mentor who will offer career management advice throughout the year and provide guidance on which rotation opportunities would be most suited to your individual development and career aspirations. As well as on-the-job development opportunities, we also provide formal training throughout the year. You will participate in a training curriculum specifically designed to help you make the most of your graduate year by equipping you with the necessary communication and business skills for success.

    Your Buddy will also provide a great support for you during your graduate year. As an ex-graduate, your Buddy can help you settle into the organisation and provide you with support and advice throughout your program.

  • Background

    The Operations Group is responsible for performing the work that goes into delivering Westpac's lending, international and transactional processes. Like all areas of the Westpac business, our focus is on providing both internal and external customers with a superior customer experience, whether we are servicing their personal, or business needs, or both.

    The Operations Group comprises around 2,500 employees and delivers low-cost, high-value, total quality processing that enriches the customer experience.

    As part of the Business and Technology Solutions and Services (BTSS) Group, Operations manages 40 per cent of the BTSS expense base. The business aims to ensure that a superior interaction at the frontline is supported with effective, timely and accurate service delivery that meets customer needs.
