  • Rotation

A rotation is the time you will spend in any one area during the graduate program.

The IT graduate program is a 2 year program comprising a number of rotations and a variety of assignments aimed at building your skills and experience.

Opportunities exist for 3 types of rotations:

    1. IT rotations: Graduates will work in one of a variety of roles within the IT business units
    2. Non-IT rotations: A rotation outside of IT
    3. IBM Global Services: A one week rotation with IBM Global Services who are our IT partners
You'll also spend a rotation in the Service Desk, which is a great way to gain exposure to the broad range of applications supported within IT.
Our IT program also includes a number of 'special' rotations that graduates can apply to undertake as part of their program. A selection process is involved to determine which graduates will be offered these rotations. The rotations include:
      1. Chief Technology Office rotation: Graduates in this rotation will experience what it's like to work in our Strategy Team, where they will focus on researching and developing strategies for IT and the business
      2. Cape York rotation: Graduates in this rotation will undertake a one month secondment to Cape York to work with Indigenous communities to develop solutions resulting in greater financial self-sufficiency

Opportunities to do an overseas rotation may also become available.

    How are your rotations determined?

At the start of your program we will draw up a rotation map for each graduate taking into consideration any preferences you may have and the particular needs of the various business units at that time.

  • Rewards/Benefits

We offer a very competitive graduate salary. You'll enjoy generous staff benefits including financial product discounts and health and lifestyle benefits. And if you don't live in Sydney, we'll help you relocate. Graduates will also be eligible for extensive training opportunities throughout the program.

  • Career path

There are a range of great career options open to you at the end of the IT program. Within IT, there are around 99 roles to choose from, depending on the level of seniority. Opportunities exist to work in IT as a Programmer, Analyst Programmer, Information Security Consultant or Business Analyst. Alternatively you may choose to kick start your career with Westpac in a more business oriented role.

  • Support and training

During your graduate program we'll work with you to bring out your best and encourage you to grow and develop.

As well as on-the-job development opportunities, we will provide formal training throughout the year. Graduates are also eligible to attend up to 12 days of business/behavioural training annually including training in business analysis, influencing skills and negotiation skills.

Your Graduate Manager is a central point of contact for you and will support you throughout the duration of your program.

You'll also have the support of your Mentor who will provide career management advice throughout the year and guidance on which rotation opportunities would be most suited to your individual development and career aspirations.

Your Buddy (a graduate in their second year of the program) will also be a great support to help you settle in to the organisation and provide you with advice along the way.

At the end of each rotation, you will also have the opportunity to meet with your assignment manager to help you discuss your performance during that rotation so you can identify both your strengths and areas for further development.
