  • Program overview

    The Consumer Financial Services (CFS) Risk Graduate Program is a 12 month rotational program that gives you the opportunity to work across the major functional teams within CFS Risk Management including Secured Product Risk, Unsecured Product Risk, Consumer Risk Analytics and Operational Risk and Compliance with most located within the Sydney CBD. During the program you will complete two six month rotations working within the CFS business to deliver enterprise and business specific risk deliverables.

    You're currently a Commerce, Finance, Business, Engineering, Mathematics or Actuarial student who has taken the opportunity to enhance your leadership skills through your involvement in extra curricular activities.

  • Job description

    During the CFS Risk Graduate Program, you will gain exposure to increasingly crucial risk management practices required for a successful retail bank. You will be involved in a variety of work that will allow you to develop your business acumen and more specialised qualitative and quantitative skills. The type of work you may be involved in includes:

    • Applying quantitative techniques to model the operational risk capital required by the enterprise
    • Working on the dealing floor to manage the market risks of financial markets and monitor Value-at-Risk
    • Being an integral part of developing risk decisioning models used throughout the Bank
    • Designing and developing ethics policies, strategy and other tools to support risk decisioning
    • Investigating compliance issues and breaches
    • Being the Regulatory liaison
    • Consolidating reporting of the group's credit risk information to both internal and external stakeholders, including Westpac's Board
  • Rotation

    A rotation is the time you'll spend in any one business team during your 12 month program.

    The CFS Risk Specialist Program enables you to work in two different business teams through a series of two rotations over a one year period. Your rotations will vary depending on the stream you work in. The Risk Graduate Program will lead you to a permanent role within Westpac that will continue to develop your technical and leadership skills.

    Opportunities exist to rotate through major functional teams within CFS Risk Management such as:

    • Secured Product Risk - Manages secured credit policy and has accountability for credit strategy, monitoring, analysis and management.
    • Unsecured Product Risk - Credit Management of Credit Cards, Personal Loans, Overdrafts and Transaction Accounts.
    • Consumer Risk Analytics - Responsible for all consumer analytics including management reporting, risk decision systems maintenance and analytical modelling.
    • Operational Risk and Compliance - aligns Group Operational Risk and Compliance requirements with CFS Operational Risk and Compliance priorities.

    The Risk Specialist Program offers you a great range of career options. At the end of the 12 month program, you might choose to kick start your career as an Operational Risk Team Consultant or as an Analyst in Consumer Analytics.

  • Support and training

    During your graduate program we'll work with you to bring out your best and encourage you to grow and develop. Your Graduate Manager will provide you with support and direction during your program and will be responsible for working with you to set up your rotations. Your Graduate Manager will also facilitate a number of graduate events throughout the year and will help you find an appropriate role at the end of your program.

    You'll also have the support of your Mentor who will offer career management advice throughout the year and provide guidance on which rotation opportunities would be most suited to your individual development and career aspirations. As well as on-the-job development opportunities, we also provide formal training throughout the year. You will participate in a training curriculum specifically designed to help you make the most of your graduate year by equipping you with the necessary communication and business skills for success.

    Your Buddy will also provide a great support for you during your graduate year. As an ex-graduate, your Buddy can help you settle into the organisation and provide you with support and advice throughout your program.
