  • Program overview

    The Business Financial Services (BFS) Finance area has focused on meeting the accounting and finance needs of the BFS business unit. During your rotations with BFS Finance, you will obtain a full understanding of Westpac's financial processes and systems as well as in depth exposure to BFS financial dynamics.

    You will spend time in the following areas:

    • Consolidation team - providing reporting for both internal and external purposes
    • Distribution team - driving sales performance and rewards for our sales people and understanding how to drive value from relationships
    • Product manufacturing - understanding and managing the financial control of product value

    One year rotational program

    This one year rotational program is designed to give you experience in three teams, allowing you the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of the operations of the team. There are several teams that offer places under this program which include the Consolidation team, Distribution team and Product manufacturing team.

  • What we're looking for

    You are currently a Commerce, Business or Accounting student with strong grades and you probably already have your sights set on gaining your professional accounting qualifications.

    You have taken the opportunity at university or school to enhance your leadership skills by being involved in clubs and societies. You aren't afraid of standing up and presenting reports and you enjoy working on projects with a team.

    You are able to work under pressure and have probably had some work experience, either as an intern, through vacation employment or part-time work during your studies.

  • Job description

    Within the one year program, you could be involved in:

    • Assisting with the production of monthly management and financial reporting
    • Assisting with the production of Westpac's statutory and regulatory reporting
    • Performing detailed analysis on various profit and loss and balance sheet items
    • Reconciliation of various profit and loss and balance sheet items
    • Providing analysis of our taxation position and reconciliation of our taxation position
    • Budgeting and planning
    • Provide strategic, financial and business advice to the various business units which comprise BFS
    • Interact closely with the other areas of the Bank including Risk Management, Compliance, Operations and other Accounting and Finance functions
  • Rotation

    A rotation is the time you spend in a department or area.

    During the one year rotational program you'll spend time in the following teams:

    • Consolidation team - providing reporting for both internal and external purposes
    • Distribution team - driving sales performance and reward for our sales people and understanding how to drive value from relationships
    • Product manufacturing - understanding and managing the financial control of product value

  • Career path

    There are a number of career options open to you at the end of the BFS Finance Program. You may choose a position which will see you directly supporting Business Financial Services. Alternatively you may work as part of a project team providing analysis or support to a project. Your time on the program will provide you with a good overview of Westpac and a strong network.

    Your career in BFS Finance will provide excellent exposure to the world of Business Banking.

  • Support and training

    All programs provide full career development support, structured training and sponsorship of the CA/CPA program, qualifying you as a professional accountant

    During your graduate program we'll work with you to bring out your best and encourage you to grow and develop. Your Graduate Manager will provide you with support and direction during your program and will be responsible for working with you to set up your rotations. Your Graduate Manager will also facilitate a number of graduate specific events throughout the year and will help you find an appropriate role at the end of your program.

    You'll have the support of your Mentor who will give career management advice throughout the year and guide you on which rotation opportunities would be best for your development and career aspirations. As well as on-the-job development opportunities, we also provide training throughout the year. You will participate in a training curriculum specifically designed to help our graduates make the most of their graduate year by equipping them with the necessary communication and business skills to be successful.

    Your Buddy is also a great support. This person is an ex-graduate who can help you out with settling into the organisation and will provide you with support and advice throughout your program.

  • Background

    The BFS Finance area is an integral part of Business Financial Services. It covers everything from operational accounting, statutory reporting, analysis of expenses and revenue to providing solutions for business units on strategy, risk and tax accounting. It's our responsibility to maintain the Business Financial Services area budgetary control, protect the business from loss and drive shareholder returns.
