Business Financial Services is responsible for sales, service and product development for small and medium sized business customers in Australia.

This is an ideal program if you are looking for the opportunity to get a taste of several different business areas before you decide where you'd like to kick start your career at Westpac. During the program you'll be introduced to a broad range of roles and challenges. The experience that you gain in the generalist program will provide you with a range of career path opportunities when you move into a permanent role after 12 months.

  • What we're looking for

You're the kind of person who believes anything is possible. You have plenty of drive and energy, enjoy a challenge and you're not afraid of rolling up your sleeves and doing some hard work. You enjoy responsibility and welcome the opportunity to work in a friendly, team-oriented environment.

  • Job description

During the 12 month graduate program, the work that you undertake within Business Financial Services will be quite varied depending on which rotations you complete.

Within the Product area of BFS, the type of work that you might be involved in includes:

    • Market and Competitor analysis
    • Product research and evaluation
    • Process re-engineering

  • Rotation

A rotation is the time you'll spend in any one department or area during your graduate program. Over the course of the BFS generalist program, you'll complete three rotations of four months duration over a one year period.

Depending on business demand, there are likely to be rotation opportunities in the following business units:

    • Marketing
    • Product e.g. Business lending / personal lending products
    • Project work

Our business is diverse, so naturally the type of work you'll be involved in will also be varied.

  • Rewards/Benefits

We offer a very competitive graduate salary. You'll enjoy generous staff benefits including financial product discounts and health and lifestyle benefits. And if you don't live in Sydney, we'll help you relocate.

  • Career path

As a generalist program graduate, you might choose to kick start your career in Product as a Product Analyst before continuing on to Product Manager and Senior Product Manager roles within a few years.

Within the Marketing division, you might launch your career as a Marketing Assistant before moving into a Marketing Manager role, followed by a Senior Marketing Manager role.

In both career paths, there may be opportunities to gain experience in Marketing and Product roles as your career progresses. You may also have the opportunity to specialise in a Sales-oriented area if that's where your passion lies.

  • Support and training

During your graduate program we'll work with you to bring out your best and encourage you to grow and develop. Your Graduate Manager will provide you with support and direction during your program and will be responsible for working with you to set up your rotations. Your Graduate Manager will also facilitate a number of graduate events throughout the year and will help you find an appropriate role at the end of your program.

You'll also have the support of your Mentor who will offer career management advice throughout the year and provide guidance on which rotation opportunities would be most suited to your individual development and career aspirations. As well as on-the-job development opportunities, we also provide formal training throughout the year. You will participate in a training curriculum specifically designed to help you make the most of your graduate year by equipping you with the necessary communication and business skills for success.

Your Buddy will also provide a great support for you during your graduate year. As an ex-graduate, your Buddy can help you settle into the organisation and provide you with support and advice throughout your program.
