• Program overview

  The Agribusiness Graduate Program is a 12 month program that gives you the opportunity to live and work in regional Australia. The program is designed to provide you with a full understanding of our products, services and customers. During the second half of the program, you will also have the opportunity to meet and work directly with the customers that we service.

  This program is very similar to our Regional program. It is the different products that we use to service our customers that differentiates the Agribusiness program from our Regional program.

• What we're looking for

  You understand and appreciate the needs of people who live and work in regional Australia. You have an affinity with country life, gained perhaps by having lived in regional Australia yourself.

  You are comfortable working independently and are prepared to travel to remote parts of the country to meet with our customers.

  On an academic level, you're likely to have a degree in Agribusiness or Economics.

• Job description

  In the first half of the program (approximately 4-6 months) opportunities exist to spend time in our Country Business Direct / Business Direct Centres based in either Ballarat - VIC, Perth - WA, Orange - NSW or Townsville - QLD, to gain an understanding of the range of products, services and systems we offer our customers.

  In the second part of the program, opportunities will be available to spend time relieving in a different role and supporting Senior Relationship Managers in handling their portfolio of clients. This will enable you to meet and work directly with our customers and service their needs.

  The kind of projects you might work on throughout the course of the program include:

  • Sourcing and analysing information
  • Creating solutions for customers
  • Building customer relationships

• Rotation

  A rotation is the time you spend in a specific area or department at Westpac during your Graduate Program. Agribusiness graduates have two rotations. Each of your rotations will be based in different locations so you need to be keen and willing to move around.

  The first rotation provides you with the opportunity to develop financial skills and learn about Westpac and our customers based at one of our Regional Business Banking Centres. During your first rotation, you might work in sales, loan processing or the credit department.

  Your second rotation is where you'll spend most of your time, putting into practice everything you learned during your first few months. During your second rotation, opportunities arise to work in the field alongside a Senior Relationship Manager, meeting our Agribusiness customers and seeing where they live and operate, which may be in remote locations.

• Career path

  Sales offers you a great range of career opportunities. You may work as a Customer Manager or Credit Analyst before moving into an Assistant Relationship Manager role and Senior Relationship Manager role within a couple of years. Your career path at Westpac may then lead you to key leadership roles in different areas within Sales.

• Support and training

  During your graduate program we'll work with you to bring out your best and encourage you to grow and develop. Your Graduate Manager will provide you with support and direction during your program and will be responsible for working with you to set up your rotations. Your Graduate Manager will also facilitate a number of graduate events throughout the year and will help you find an appropriate role at the end of your program.

  You'll also have the support of your Mentor who will offer career management advice throughout the year and provide guidance on which rotation opportunities would be most suited to your individual development and career aspirations. As well as on-the-job development opportunities, we also provide formal training throughout the year. You will participate in a training curriculum specifically designed to help you make the most of your graduate year by equipping you with the necessary communication and business skills to be successful.

  Your Buddy will also be a great support for you during your graduate year. Your Buddy is an ex-graduate who can help you settle into the organisation and provide you with support and advice throughout your program.

• Background

  Westpac's Agribusiness division is set up to meet the distinct needs of customers in regional areas of Australia. The products we market to our regional customers are different to those that we market to other Westpac customers.

  We have over one million Agribusiness customers who we provide with business, agribusiness and personal banking services in the rural areas of Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, Western Australia and South Australia. We also work with customers in Tasmania, Northern Territory and the ACT.
